Our studies support reliable network operation, selective protection coordination, equipment verification, safer fault response and informed technical decision-making.
Protection studies, fault analysis, load flow review and system performance assessment for safer and more reliable operation.
Why power system studies are crucial
Power system studies are essential for understanding how an electrical network behaves during normal operation, faults and changing system conditions. They help verify that protection devices, transformers, cables and switchgear are properly selected and coordinated.
Early technical analysis improves system reliability, reduces risk, supports standards compliance and provides better confidence for design, operation and future upgrades.
Ensure the correct protection device operates first and minimizes unnecessary loss of supply.
Check whether transformers, switchgear and cables are suitable for the system duty and fault levels.
Review protection behaviour and fault response to reduce operational hazards and arc flash risk.
Evaluate loading, fault response, generator interaction and potential system limitations.
Support project decisions in line with utility requirements and IEC, IEEE, AS and AS/NZS standards.
What we provide
We provide network modelling and technical studies to support performance review, protection coordination, equipment verification, fault level assessment and system compliance across a wide range of electrical projects.
Our team uses NEPLAN to carry out practical analysis for LV and HV networks, industrial facilities, generator systems and utility-connected infrastructure in accordance with applicable standards and utility requirements.
Our expertise in power system studies
We deliver practical study outcomes for network performance, fault behaviour, equipment suitability, protection grading and operational safety.
Steady-state network modelling to assess voltage profile, system loading, transformer loading and general operating performance.
Bus voltage assessment, feeder loading review, loss evaluation and overall network performance checks.
Fault current analysis to determine prospective fault levels and verify the adequacy of switchgear and associated equipment ratings.
Three-phase and other fault condition analysis, equipment duty review and fault contribution assessment.
Protection grading studies to coordinate reclosers, relays, HV fuses, transformers and LV protective devices for selective fault isolation.
TCC review, grading margins, selectivity checks and coordination across HV and LV protection devices.
Assessment of protection performance and fault clearing behavior to help reduce arc flash risk and support safer operation.
Protection response review, fault clearing implications and identification of risk reduction opportunities.
Verification of transformer sizing, cable sizing and performance under steady-state and fault conditions.
Thermal adequacy review, loading checks, fault withstand review, voltage drop review and rating verification.
Desktop analysis and system modelling to assess performance, operational limitations and protection behaviour during generator parallel operation.
Review of SLDs, protection settings, generator operating conditions and compliance with relevant standards.
Past Project Experience
Client Location: Mundamia NSW, Australia
Project involved an Overcurrent Protection Coordination Study, developed in accordance with utility requirements and relevant standards. The electrical network was modelled and analyzed using NEPLAN software, including coordination of recloser, relay, HV fuses, transformers, and LV protection devices. Proper grading and selectivity were established to ensure effective coordination across the system. The study ensured selective operation during faults while considering equipment characteristics and cable ratings.
Client Location: Kolonia, Pohnpei, Micronesia
The project involved conducting a Power System Study for the Vital Energy facility in Pohnpei, Micronesia to assess system performance during generator parallel operation. The scope included detailed review of single line diagrams, protection settings, and system data, along with modelling and analysis using NEPLAN software. The study focused on evaluating system performance, identifying operational or design limitations, and assessing protection behaviour. System performance was evaluated against applicable IEC, IEEE, and AS/NZS standards to ensure compliance.
Client Location: North Richmond, NSW, Australia
The project involved LV network modelling and comprehensive power system studies using NEPLAN for the Westrock facility in North Richmond, NSW. Load flow and short-circuit analysis were performed to assess network capacity and fault levels. Protection coordination, including CB/fuse selection and arc flash risk mitigation, was carried out. Transformer and cable sizing were verified under steady-state and fault conditions, including power factor correction and capacitor bank sizing, in line with applicable standards.
